Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a key practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) used to release tension, improve circulation and promote the flow of Qi (our body’s vital energy). It involves gently scraping the skin with a smooth tool, often made of jade, rose quartz or meta, to stimulate blood  flow and relieve muscle tightness.

How Does Gua Sha Work?

In TCM, stagnation of Qi and blood is believed to cause pain and dysfunction. Gua Sha helps unblock these stagnant areas, encouraging circulation and reducing inflammation. The light pressure applied with the tool also engages the immune response, promoting the body’s natural healing processes.

The treatment is usually applied to the back, neck, shoulders, and face. Facial Gua Sha is especially popular for its rejuvenating effects on the skin, helping to improve tone and reduce puffiness.

What Can Gua Sha Treat?

Gua Sha is used to treat a wide variety of conditions, including:

  • Muscle pain and tension

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Chronic pain, including arthritis

  • Respiratory conditions such as colds and asthma

  • Skin concerns like puffiness and dull complexion

  • Stress and anxiety
